What We Believe Versus Reality
Over this coming year we will all stand at a crossroads no matter what culture, country or mountaintop one may live on. The crossroads will come in the form of a major choice. The choice lies at the juncture of two roads. Shall we continue to walk the road always well traveled, built by many social, religious, national, and familial beliefs? Or, shall we take the road less traveled, to walk down the road of natural law, a road we have mostly forgotten?
I refer you to a passage from the Velveteen Rabbit written by Margery Williams:
“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?” “Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.” “Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit. “Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.” “Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?” “It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
This is the journey that will meet us over the coming three years as Saturn resides in Sagittarius. It is about coming to terms with life as it IS, despite what you believe, it is about walking your talk rather than thinking you do. It is about facing your Truth rather than rationalizing it. As a rule, humans have never appreciated truth tellers, particularly if said truth opposed cherished principles, ideals and other bits and bytes of conceptualized data.
Instead, we will be faced over this time of sorting the truth from the fantasy, the subjectivity from the objectivity, the smoke from the mirrors. Saturn has a way of revealing the bare bones structure of the kind of consciousness we hold. You cannot judge a book by its cover yet many people do. This time we will come face to face with beliefs of all kinds. Many of us will have to decide if the beliefs we hold are worth it. Many of us will have to decide how much our beliefs really cost us, the world at large and the future of the world. How, ultimately, our beliefs cost us love.
The reason why this is important is, as the rabbit discovers, is that many of the beliefs that people live by are not real. They are manufactured. I recall I used to mutter “it’s real enough” to well meaning adults who would try and reassure me by telling me the scary things I saw at night were not real. They are made up thought forms.
We now have major disconnect when we treat virtual reality via various games and technologies as real. It births confusion, disorientation and madness. We become desensitized to what really matters, such as clean water, safe infrastructure, clean air and pure food.
As you go through these remarkable times ahead, it is recommended that you take inventory of what you truly believe or feel, intuitively within you as true. Question whether your beliefs enhance or restrict your life. Question where those beliefs came from. Most of all take some time to ponder that perhaps the journey after all is like the velveteen rabbits. It is about becoming real, it takes a very long time, and is a process in which we have to extract the pure and the precious from the dense and the worthless in attitude and spirit.
Question whether some of the beliefs you still harbor in fact keep you from being that True Self you yearn for. Any void within may be telling you that something may be missing after all.
Listen most of all to your heart for it is the bastion that holds your Inner Truth. When teaching workshops and folks are asked to point to who they are, all tend to point to their heart, never their head. For you are not what you think. Therefore you are not what you believe. So, quickly, get on your horse and ride to the sun, ride to what is real, the spirit that lives within your heart.
